Going Places

Outside the classroom, students have really been on the go this fall.   Junior kindergarten B groups went to Herrle's pumpkin patch in October and enjoyed themselves immensely. “The children carved their pumpkins (les citrouilles) in the afternoon  to decorate the classes and enjoyed tasting "les graines" (roasted pumpkin seeds),” said Mme. Leclerc. “Un gros merci to the many parents who accompanied us. You helped make it a huge success!”

seeing the pigs as we are reading Charlotte’s Web in class. Could one of them have been Wilbur’s grandmother?”wonders Ms. Henderson.

Grade 4 students enjoyed a nature hike at Guelph Lake Conservation Area.

Grade 5 students went on an informative field trip to Waterloo City Hall to learn about local government.

Bonjour from Kindergarten A. Lately, Mrs. Thomas and Mme Couture find themselves surrounded by monkeys, lions, foxes and chipmunks (no, not the children). In addition to animal studies, the children have been watching the weather changes and were excited to see the first snow. Most of all, they are enjoying their Grade 4 Book Buddies who come to read with them. Feel free to stop by and hear their class rhythm band. Everyone has been working very hard at this!

In the higher grades, Mr. Visser says students in Grade 6, 7 and 8 have designed and constructed bridges, homes, boats, planets and many other fascinating structures for the science and technology class. “These excellent items are on display in the science room. Feel free to take a look.”

Over the coming months, the students will be building many other projects, including those destined for the 2005 Waterloo-Wellington Science and Engineering Fair, which our Grade 7 and 8 students enter every year.

“The students have demonstrated their technical talents and pride in every project,” Mr. Visser adds.

all learning a great deal. We now know that we have a Prime  Minister, not a president, and he is Paul Martin, not George Washington! In November we will be studying Mexico and learning to count to ten in Spanish. We will also have a special "Mexican" lunch.”

In Grade 5, Mrs. Evers reports that each student made a Canada Goose. “We have suspended them in a V formation in the classroom. Something is going to tell the wild geese it is time to fly, so anyone who wants to see them should do so soon.”

Grade 5 students also made a model of Life for Early Man which were studied in September and October. “They were amazing: we have very creative and artistic students in this school,”

Kindergarten C students paid a visit to the Butterfly Museum and learned that butterflies actually migrate to Mexico for the winter.

December 7th, the Grade  2 class will go to the     Westfield Heritage Village in Rockton.

Grade 3 students took a trip to Country Heritage Park, near Milton, as part of their study of urban and rural communities. Despite the rain and cool temperatures, the students enjoyed their trip and learned a lot. “They especially enjoyed
